July 26, 2007Hello all. I’ve moved on to a new blog to write about technology.
Parental Controls
July 10, 2007I had to help a youth pastor today with installing a copy of Safe Eyes software on his computer at the church. I am not really a fan of filtering software, but the board at the church insists that the ministers use some kind of pR0n blocking software on their computers. Anyway, the youth pastor was having a problem with the Safe Eyes. It was not working because it could not communicate with the remote servers. Finally I figured out the problem was that Norton Firewall was blocking the port on the computer that the program needed to call home. In Norton Firewall there is a section that controls your programs, and you can change it from “Deny All” to “Permit All”. I did that and it started working. Just a tip on something that you all probably already know how to figure out … but anyway … my 2 cent tip for the day.
Solarum: Tech Support For Everyone
July 6, 2007There is a new tech support website online at www.solarum.com.
I have signed up on the forums and plan on making use of this site on a regular basis. The person who started it, Laz, is an old friend of mine back when I worked at an ISP. Laz knows his stuff when it comes to technology, and I’m sure a lot of folks will signing up for this website soon to get in on the action. Tell your friends.

Getting Ruby On Rails installed on MacOSX
March 15, 2007Not only did the tutorial from Dan Benjamin get RoR installed but also a lot of other goodies. If you are using a Mac for development, definitely check it out. So, as you can tell, I am still checking out Ruby. I’ve just finished following the tutorial and have an active install of Rails on my MacBook.
Email Security
March 9, 2007Sometimes sensitive data needs to be sent via email and as it travels to its destination it can be intercepted by hackers, isps, the office i.t. geek or even a nosy government. In this tutorial, we’ll discuss how to use Apple’s Mail application to send secure emails that are signed and encrypted.
